Superdrug Stores plc (trading as Superdrug) is a health and beauty retailer in the United Kingdom, and the second largest behind Boots UK. The company has been a subsidiary of A.S. Watson Group since October 2002, itself part of the Hong Kong conglomerate CK Hutchison Holdings.

Sonia mentioned, "If I could give minus stars I would. I was racially profiled by a security guard in a Superdrug store while out shopping with my sister. I left the store straight away, but brought it to the attention of the Superdrug customer service team via twitter that same day. They said they would investigate and get back to me, but almost two weeks later I heard nothing so I had to chase them. They then gave me a very generic apology. I tried to explain to them that firstly it should be the security guard to apologise and secondly it is not even about the apology anyways. What I wanted was to know what changes they would be implementing to try and prevent this from happening again in the future. They couldn't or didn't want to answer that and instead offered me 400-700 beauty points. To put that into perspective, they offered me £4-7 in response to my complaint about being racially profiled. I was not after freebies or compensation, but if I was, that would have been a slap in the face. They just could not seem to comprehend how being racially profiled is so degrading, demeaning and leaves you with feelings of sadness, distress and anguish. They couldn't understand that I didn't appreciate being made to feel this way because of a shopping experience that I had in one of their stores and that I wanted a clear cut action plan to show that they see the fault and are willing to fix it, so that no person of colour will ever feel like that again after visiting one of their stores. Due to this Superdrug does not deserve people of colour to shop with them!"

Former Employee - Sales Assistant says

"They are a horrible company to work for. Although being goal orientated, they put it way before the welfare of their staff and customers."

Former Employee - Sales Advisor says

"Annoying management Don't get paid enough to do that kind of work Boring and repetitive Shift seems to drag for ages"

Former Employee - Staff says

"pay is not adequate to the position; disappointing"

Former Employee - Student says

"I am an older student and so I was working part time at Superdrug in Hove, a job I enjoyed. I had a very good relationship with my manager when we were not at work however she always felt the need to belittle me, even in front of customer who would often comment about how aggressive and out of order she was, she never did this to the other employees. Just before the lockdown began I had booked my holiday and went home to see my family, unfortunately when I got there the lockdown began and we were told not to travel. A few days into my holiday I was called by my manager who told me that I was wrong for booking a holiday and leaving her, although I am only part time it was all of a sudden my responsibility for getting back and helping out although I was on holiday, the phone call was very heated and in the end she slammed the phone down on me. My superdrug account was shut down and I haven't heard a thing since. I was a good worker, always hitting targets and helping customers, I feel that I was dismissed unfairly and that as a company superdrug does not care for its employees especially in a time where our safety should have been a priority. I would have liked to have continued working for this company but I have received no communication from them."

Current Employee - Retail Sales Associate says

"Everything, the training and management were very poor"

Former Employee - Assistant Manager says

"Long hours for management on a 39 hour but are expected to do 45 hours minimum (as told by area manager in the interview) contract but you will be the for at least 52 hrs a week and not get paid the extra. Your told your get back what you put in Ie bonus at the end of the year. Within the last year of me working 258 hours UNPAID I got a petty £200 bonus. You can't make the bonus cause shoplifting is rife in superdrug as most shoplifters know superdrug does not employ security guards even tho assaults against retail staff have gone up 48% in the last 3 year's however it's your job to protect stock if not your not getting a bonus. The lack of communication is shocking. The whole company is back dated and still using tech from the early 90's. Managent can be sneaky the amount of times I've seen a manager be rude about a member of staff then act like their best mate as soon as they walk in the room. Staff areas are never maintained and look neglected and dirty. The whole coronavirus outbreak was a joke the way they looked after staff considering they are a pharmaceutical company is shocking and fail their staff at every opportunity! Don't work for them the Assitant manager wage is the same as most retail supervisor wages and managers are just the same as Assitant manager wages in retail. Normal staff your on very short hour contracts 4-12 hour contracts so if your sick it's not much of a loss plus the wage system of paying is back dated and need to get on par with the rest of the retail market! If you want to progress its not what you know but who you know!"

Former Employee - Manager says

"Bad pay, treat staff at all levels like dirt"

Current Employee - Sales Advisor says

"Horrible labour managers overwork the staff and are married to their job expecting all staff to be the same no care for covid 19! Horrible shifts! Also no lunch breaks"

Fragrance Consultant (Former Employee) says

"Rude, two faced, gossiping staff and management. Harassed by management via text and Facebook constantly. Bullying and isolating behaviour. Lazy staff allowed to get away with murder. Favouritism between managers and certain staff getting overtime and the hours to suit them. Several complaints made and ignored by managers. Swearing and abuse on the shop floor with no discipline. I will not even shop there as a customer anymore"

Hgv driver (Current Employee) says

"Start times all over the place so no sleeping or eating pattern,of you turn a silly start time down they won’t give you any work for a couple of days, they don’t give you any work wear dress as you want t shirt trainers won’t even get gloves will give you hi viz cos it’s advertising for them on the law they should give you tOn door step that’s allTypical agency not bothered"

Team Leader (Current Employee) says

"Lots of favouritism, with inexperienced management team who are just bullies. When we fail our targets clearly because of the laziness of these managers, the workers who worked hardest got punished. No respect, not much training but expectation way too high. I felt being used and abused.Good job for pocket money onlyVery bad experience"

NAIL TECHNICIAN (Current Employee) says

"I would never recommend this place to anyone as you are not valued as a person let alone as an employee, You are bullied and management does nothing about it management also shouts at you even if you weren't working that day you are not valued AVOID AVOID AVOID.Nothingeverything"

Assistant Manager (Former Employee) says

"No work life balance, running on barely any hours so management have to do even more than the 50 hours expected, none of which is paid obviously. Toxic working environment."

Sales Assistant (Former Employee) says

"your just a number for the company and shop you locate to, you have to meet targets every day ,no safety in place from violent/ rude customers no management support and no area support.nonenot valid"

Team Leader (Former Employee) says

"Poor management, no proper training , to many mistakes from managers . No support from area managers and constantly under pressure to sell and hit targets"

Driver (Former Employee) says

"Long proses to get in,false promises from management, hardly no work, hard to get awnsers from management about work and being payed.waste of time to work for this company and only the favourites get regular workNoneEverything"

Sales Assistant (Former Employee) says

"Horrible company to work for. They ask you for loyalty but they give you none if you have worked there for 10 plus years. You can run a department and still only get payed a sales assistant rate. Management have no skills ie communication, how to deal with staff. How to get the best out of staff. Most managers get recruitment by hiring their family members. Company rules are never followed."

Sales Assistant (Former Employee) says

"Manager alway hungover and smelling of alcohol, bullying in the work place, your just a number to the company, area manager and regional manager cover problems up, No privacy between manager and employee, if you ring in sick everyone knows about it and you become the talk of work, overall not a great place to work."

Supervisor/Team Leader (Former Employee) says

"Avoid this company! On the surface they’re great but upper management and head office do not care about employees at all! Hours constantly cut, area managers care too much about bonus to make any kind of positive change and serious health and safety incidents/emails ignored, to the point where staff end up injured! Staff blackmailed and belittled, investigated for things that upper management have decided is their fault even though there is cctv to prove otherwise. Staff forced to work way over their contract and penalised for requesting to just work their contracted hours. No one dares speak up for fear of losing their job or being moved store! Company fails its employees at every turn, and the ones who want to make change for the better are either ignored or pushed out by corrupt money grabbers. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!"

Sales Advisor (Former Employee) says

"Working for Superdrug was the worst experience of my life! I was bullied day in day out by the senior And area managers. Very boring and repetitive job. Constant pressure from trying to sell sim cards and star buys to customers. Expect you to stand in for senior management when low on staff, with no extra training or pay. Always underpaid due to store managers processing breaks when usually asked not to take a break due to shortage of staff. High street Stores have a lot of theft however Superdrug won’t employ a security guard! So as a sales advisor you are expected to stop the thieves... when unable to do so The area manager accuses the store of having internal theft and watches the CCTV footage of the staff more than thinking of ways to stop thieves. A lot of employees are related and get extra privileges due to this."

Assistant Manager (Former Employee) says

"Do NOT, work for this company. Especially this store. Whitley Bay. Manager is bully! Sets you up to gain a hold on you and uses it countlessly. Talks down to you, and tricks you into a faulse sense of security together with her two team supervisors. They will gang up on you. Has gone through seven Assistant Managers in three years and nothing is done about this Managers disgraceful behaviour by the area Manager. Disgusting."

Sales Assistant (Former Employee) says

"STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE !! I worked at Superdrug for 3 years and every moment was a living vile, when I first started I thought it was a friendly and welcoming place but then as the months went on I started to realise how bad the environment was. The store is all round disorganised and poorly run and it is blamed on the staff, the manager is a bully and when he doesn’t like you he will get his minions to bully you too to the point you want leave. The way you get spoken to by managers is atrocious and they have obvious favourites who are aloud to get away with murder, the pressure to sell star buys and sims is constant and when you don’t sell enough you get a mouth full of disrespect. Poor 4 hour shifts and contracts, because my face didn’t fit I never got offered more even when working hard. While working here, my depression and anxiety was at its absolute worse now that I’ve left life has gotten better. Honestly find your self a better place to work than this dead end, run down vile companyLeavingBullying Managers, constant pressure, everything"

Sales Assistant (Current Employee) says

"You don’t get paid enough. The managers expect too much and it’s unrealistic You will probably do a lot more hours then your contracted hours as well."

sales advisor (Former Employee) says

"10/10 would not work here again. long shifts with low pay absolutely not worth it management was bias, staff were confrontational poor experience with this company"

Beauty Therapist and sale assistant (Former Employee) says

"If you gonna do more they gonna give you whatever they want and when they posted a job that they will pay us £9.54 per hour but you’ll receive £8.21 they are liars and they treat you like your nothing they can rule you however they want"

Sales Advisor (Former Employee) says

"Disclaimer: as far as I’ve heard, other Superdrug stores are much better environments than where I worked… Completely disorganised and unprofessional environment, management are disgustingly corrupt and in no way subtle about it. They have clear favourites and treat anyone outside of their clique with complete disrespect. They don’t care in the slightest about customer experience (I was told once that I asked too many ‘common sense’ questions and that it didn’t matter if I gave customers incorrect information as long as I didn’t bother anyone else over the headset by the store manager). Rotas are changed without informing you, there is no concern whatsoever for staff wellbeing or happiness, and no support given no matter the circumstances if you’re not part of the ‘in-group’, and absolutely no humanity or compassion shown. Targets are the main concern over everything and staff are trained to be aggressive in meeting them. Overall, a shocking experience and not one I’d recommend to anyone unless gravely desperate."

Kelly-Anne Parker says

"Ordered for next day on Thursday, was told the order would be ready to collect on the Monday, to find that it’s not even at the store. Quite disappointed if I’m honest."

Steve says

"For the third consecutive month, Superdrug mobile have taken double the amount they should out of my account, each time after promising not to do it again, each time after putting me into overdraft. Absolutely terrible service. Edit: Sanya, Superdrug say this EVERY month and then do it again EVERY month. I have to scour my bank balance because of it and only find out when I get an overdraft notification. I have also email that address (am used to it now) and still haven't got a reply or refund."

C says

"Really disappointed and annoyed that all the items on offer online are only available in store or for click and collect, not for home delivery. You are discriminating against those of us who don't have a Superdrug in our town & national lockdown rules state we can't go in to the next town for non essential reasons. That means you are also losing out on our business too."

Catriona Cory says

"Poor customer service handling. I placed an order - part of which was rejected by the pharmacy. I called to ask for the order to be cancelled and was hung up on. I then tried to find an alternative customer service number from the one provided on email - to which I was not successful. I tried to use the Customer chat and was told they couldn't give me a refund and to email doctors email address - to which I have had no response. I have since tried again to contact the customer service chat and have now been told it is too late to cancel my order as it has now been sent. Funny - if there was a smooth customer service operations system this could have been solved 6 hours ago when I first asked to cancel the order but have been told no refunds are possible until the point it is too late. Now, everyone's time has been wasted, not to mention the fuel and carbon impacts. Ridiculous. And I still haven't been able to cancel this order. Absolutely will not use Superdrug again, this was a terrible mistake."

Sophia Naureen says

"I brought two VO5 Matt Clay from the 2 for £6.00 offer, went I opened them at home 1 of the clay had finger marks as the product was never sealed, I went back today and the manager at the Kings Heath branch refused to take it back accusing me, when I explained this was never sealed even then he refused to exchange it or refund."

William says

"Dear Superdrug I am writing to you to make you aware of the irresponsible and rude behaviour of Sammy your store manager. I would like to lodge a formal complaint regarding the rude treatment I received from him today 18/01/2021 at your store. He begun to raise her voice to me as I wasn’t finding an email on my phone quick enough for him to check my online purchase. He was definitely in a hurry and told the another sales assistance to get an alternative manage to deal with the matter. 2 minutes later I passed the store and he was outside smoking one block away from the store. (A very busy man)…. I’m a pensioner and not very technical, a little bit slow on emails and iPhones. May I remind Sammy he will be old one day, it’s shorter than you think. I hope that this letter explains my feelings and disappointment with what has occurred, I would not like this to happen to me or any other elderly customer and hope that corrective measures are taken swiftly."
